John Morton, TN Archive of Moving Image and Sound – Satellite Club Speaker – 30 January 2023

John Morton, McClung Historical Collection Assistant Audiovisual Archivist, will share information on TAMIS with the club. TAMIS is one of Knox County Public Library’s most prized collections, preserving the moments—large and small—that people chose to record on film, video, and audio: a Knoxville family sledding on a snowy day in 1941; a group of Fountain City teens dancing at a house party in 1937; football games at Knoxville College and UT; and one of the earliest known recordings of a young singer named Dolly Parton. Dating back to 1915, the Tennessee Archive of Moving Image and Sound (TAMIS) moving image collection currently contains more than 5,000 reels and videotapes of home movies, documentaries, advertisements, industrial and training films, commercial films, television programming, and newsreels, all with local or regional connections.

This meeting will be held at the East Tennessee Historical Society at 601 South Gay Street at 5:30 pm.
