Marilyn has published a documented history based on research into her family and Knoxville’s history. . When the Rivers Flowed: An Ambitious Hillbilly and a Southern Flapper Discover Knoxville, Tennessee is a history of the city told through the life experiences of two young people. Earl Layman moved to town in 1918 while Marie Little followed a decade later. Earl knew some of the city’s most colorful characters such as John R. Neal, a brilliant attorney with poor bathing habits, and Cas Walker, a successful entrepreneur and cantankerous politician. Author Marilyn Mascaro will share pictures of the era, talk about her research, and review some of Knoxville’s most memorable events.
